Abstract

Thesis about Petroleum Geology and Stratigraphy. The main objective is to evaluate geologically the structural train Balsaura - Huito - Shiviyacu and to estimate its hydrocarbon potential. The Ecuadorian Suroriente presents important characteristics that convert it in a target for the exploration of hydrocarbons. It has rocks with good reservoir potential, structures that although they are delicate, they are good for the trappement of oil, lithological sequences that contain depositional limits , erosional limits and hiatus, indications of generation and migration of hydrocarbons inside the area and similarity in general to the environment of the north producer area of the Marañon Basin in Peru. Less than half of the apparent prospective structural features, defined by the seismic have been proved. In the area corresponding to the Suroriente, two big structural orientations can be observed, the first of NE-SW orientation, located to the northwest of the study area and conformed by the anticlines Balsaura and Amazonas and the second of NW-SE orientation, to the southeast of the previous anticlines, conformed by the anticline Conambo - Huito. Also, five stratigraphic sequences have been identified inside the Aptian – Maastrichtian interval. It is proposed the Barrier Bar Complex as the depositional environment for the U Sandstone and of stream braided and meandering fluvial environments for the M-1 Sandstone. It is proposed a Petroleum System located to the Southwest of the Oriente Basin (Santiago). Diverse factors like, long migration distances, multiple pulses of hydrocarbons, remigration and biodegradation give accumulations as a result whose API gravities varies from 10 to 35 grades in the whole Ecuadorian and Peruvian (Lote 1-AB) area. The original oil in place calculated for the structures of the Suroriente is of 1083 MMBO and the reserves are of around 110.5 MMBO corresponding to the Amazonas, Balsaura and Conambo - Huito structures. The main recommendation is to obtain bigger quantity of biostratigraphic data and to evaluate the three singles anticlines of the Conambo – Huito structure.
